Healing with Medicine or Faith
A common question and turmoil for those who are Christian is
whether or not medicine should be used when we are taught by many
pastors and the Bible alike that faith is sufficient. I once heard
it put this way, "Once we've disovered and trusted in God,
we have no need to turn back to the ways of the 'natural world'
. . . it is His spirit that produced life; and it is the source
of ALL healing".
My experience and study has shown me the following
in response to this mentality:
If one has had a born again experience, the absolute
highest for that person from that point forward would be to walk
in faith in every area of life, including healing. It is true that
we are children of the Creator of life and the greatest physician
of all, but we as responsible children must walk in obedience to
recieve the blessings of the father. Any who would choose to follow
the "no medicine" route and stand on faith alone need
to realize that something other than faith is required in order
to follow the "no medicine" route. The first thing that
is required is a specific word from God that you are to stand in
faith and not partake of any medicine. It's not that we are not
to stand in faith, it is actually the opposite. We are to stand
in faith in all things, BUT God provided medicine and expects us
to use it for physical problems. Faith is the perfect remedy for
life problems and spiritual problems that medicine cannot touch
and although it should never become deminished, it is not always
the sole answer for the physical problems.
There are several reasons for this statement. First,
God created us of dust and He created herbs and natural remedies
that originate in the same dust to help us with our physical needs.
This point is made very clear in Genesis. Secondly, God will never
make us sick. He does use sickness to teach us and help us grow
closer to Him, but He will never make us sick. Even in the case
of Job, He allowed satan to make job sick, but God did not do it.
Because God is not the source of the illness, it is not His responsibility
directly to correct it. There are principles and statutes that were
not followed and that is what created the illness. To study and
show ourselves approved in finding what caused it and what needs
to be done is the answer. As a loving father, God did create everything
needed to stay well and get well when the proper wellness principles
were not followed. People are forever asking for prayer of their
physical needs and often recieve no help because they are waiting
for a supernatural miracle instead of looking for the answer God
provides. God does not work in miracles as a rule, He supplies answers
that will help us learn and grow. This is where the study of nutrition
and the use of herbs and other natural remedies come into play.
If you are sure God gave you a specific word that
you are to stand in faith and not use any medicine at all, it would,
of course, be a sin to use any medicine. Many choose the "faith
alone" route without that specific word from God and in these
cases, God has not supplied the annointing to activate the faith
you are attempting to walk in. When faith is not in abundance, healing
will not take place and condemnation is the end result. This would
never be right. It would never be right that we feel condemned or
belittled. Because God provided herbs for the healing of the nations,
if we choose not to use natural medicine when we have not heard
a word from God we are scoffing at God's ability to supply an answer.
We need to remember when we are praying for a miracle that it may
come in a form that is not instant and supernatural. Perhaps God
wants to use your search for an answer to your illness to teach
you something about natural care of His temple, the human body.
Thus it is my belief that God placed medicine here
to help us. Medicine is simply a means or a boost to the faith that
we already have, assuming you are using the medicines from nature
as God intended. Jesus used oil for anointing and for healing, He
used mud on a blind mans eyes and various other instances. Why did
He do this? Did Jesus not have the power to speak a word and have
it so? I believe He did, but He used these physical items to show
and teach us that we will often need a means of getting a job done.
We live in a realm that is more physical than spiritual and so physical
medicines are also needed. This does not mean that we stop having
faith, but we should stand in faith that the medicine will work
effectively and quickly. More than that, have faith that God will
lead you to the right midicine that will not harm or defile your
body as drugs and surgery do, or that God will lead you to a doctor
who can direct you to the right medicine.
CAUTION ABOUT MEDICINE: There is also the matter
of the "kinds" of medicine that can be used to bring about
healing. The average person is aware of drugs and doctors with prescriptions,
but this is not the kind of medicine God would have you use EVER!
Never is one to partake in pharmakia unless there is no other option
and then I think we need to be cautious. Drugs and medications are
witchcraft and sorcery by the literal definition of the word! How
could that ever be God's will? Notice that Jesus used natural products
that originated from the earth, the same place we the human originated.
Be cautious about what you partake of when beginning to use medicine.
Medication will never heal you although it may mask the problem
and when used, you will no doubt need to repent from it when your
knowledge base increases. You may use this website as a means of
good foundational education in what can and should be done to invoke
healing the way God would have it to be.
Blessings and perfect health to you and yours,
