Yersinia

Some members of Yersinia are pathogenic in humans. One in particular, Y. pestis, is the causative agent of the plague called Yersiniosis. Rodents are the natural reservoirs of Yersinia; less frequently other mammals serve as the host. Infection may occur through blood (in the case of Y. pestis it is spread by flea bites). The symptoms of plague depend on the concentrated areas of infection in each person. Examples are: bubonic plague in lymph nodes, septicemic plague in blood vessels, pneumonic plague in lungs, and so on.

Yersinia may also be spread via consumption of food products (especially vegetables, milk-derived products and meat) contaminated with infected urine or feces. Because Yersinia are known to be intracellular parasites, it is also believed that they can be acquired if a person is contaminated with certain kinds of parasites -the bacteria live within the parasite.

Yersinia is implicated as one of the causes of reactive arthritis worldwide, and suspected to be the cause of some Crohn's disease and pseudoappendicitis, which are symptoms of appendicitis but not actually an apendix condition.

While Yersinia bacteria can survive extreme cold and may not be affected by freezing, they are inactivated by oxidizing agents such as exposure to hydrogen peroxide.

Vibrio

Several species of Vibrio are pathogens. Most disease causing strains are associated with gastroenteritis (food poisoning, usually associated with eating undercooked seafood) but can also infect open wounds and cause septicemia (severe infection). It can be carried by numerous sea-living animals, such as crabs or prawns, and has been known to cause fatal infections in humans during exposure.

Pathogenic Vibrio cholerae is the causative agent of cholera, an infection of the small intestine. The primary symptoms of cholera are profuse painless diarrhea and vomiting of clear fluid. These symptoms usually start quickly, within one to five days after ingestion of the bacteria. The diarrhea is frequently described as "rice water" in nature and may have a fishy odor. An untreated person with cholera may produce 10–20 liters of diarrhea a day with fatal results. If the severe diarrhea and vomiting are not aggressively treated within hours, life-threatening dehydration and electrolyte imbalances can occur. The typical symptoms of dehydration include low blood pressure, poor skin turgor (wrinkled hands), sunken eyes, and a rapid pulse. For every symptomatic person there are 3 to 100 people who get the infection but remain symptom free.

Vibrio vulnificus outbreaks (a species that causes food poisoning) commonly occur in warm climates and small, generally lethal, outbreaks occur regularly. An outbreak occurred in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and several lethal cases occur most years in Florida.

Many Vibrio are also zoonotic, meaning they cause disease in fish and shellfish, and are common causes of mortality among domestic marine life.

This Quantum Formula antidotes the various species in the Vibrio genus and all of its subspecies.

Treponema

Treponema species cause treponemal diseases such as syphilis, bejel, pinta and yaws.

T. pallidum pallidum is a motile spirochaete that is generally acquired by close sexual contact. The organism can also be transmitted to a fetus by transplacental passage during the later stages of pregnancy, causing congenital syphilis. The subspecies causing yaws, pinta, and bejel are morphologically and serologically indistinguishable from T. pallidum pallidum (syphilis). However, their transmission is not venereal in nature and the course of each disease is significantly different.

  • Syphilis is transmitted through sexual contact or from mother to fetus during pregnancy or at birth. The signs and symptoms of syphilis vary depending on which of the four stages it is present in (primary, secondary, latent, and tertiary). The primary stage typically starts with a single chancre (a firm, painless, non-itchy skin ulceration), secondary syphilis with a diffuse rash which frequently involves the palms of the hands and soles of the feet, latent syphilis with little to no symptoms, and tertiary syphilis with gummas (growths), neurological, or cardiac symptoms.
  • Yaws is an infection of the skin, bones and joints transmitted by skin to skin contact. The bacteria enter the skin through a scratch or cut and become infected. This becomes a painless nodule which enlarges and becomes warty in appearance. Left untreated, warty nodules can appear all over the body as time progresses.
  • Pinta is thought to be transmitted by skin to skin contact. After an incubation period of two to three weeks, it produces a raised papule which enlarges and becomes scaly/flaky. Within three to nine months it thickens and flat lesions appear all over the body. These generally resolve, but a portion of people with pinta will further develop late-stage disease, characterized by pigment changes with a mixture of hyperpigmentation and depigmentation which can be disfiguring.
  • Bejel usually begins in childhood as a small mucous patch, often on the interior of the mouth, followed by the appearance of raised, eroding lesions on the limbs and trunk. Periostitis (inflammation) of the leg bones is common and gummas (growth) of the nose and soft palate develop in later stages.

Streptococcus

Streptococci are part of the normal environment of the mouth, skin, intestine, and upper respiratory tract of humans. Streptococci are even a necessary ingredient in Swiss cheese. Some species are pathogenic which means they cause infection. The most common ones are:

  • Streptococcal pharyngitis (strep throat)
  • Impetigo (infection of the skin)
  • Rheumatic fever (inflammation of the heart and joints)
  • Scarlet fever (skin rash)

Severe, sometimes life-threatening disease may occur when bacteria get into parts of the body where it is usually not found, such as the blood, muscle, or the lungs. Certain Streptococcus species are responsible for many cases of meningitis, bacterial pneumonia, endocarditis, glomerulonephritis, erysipelas and necrotizing fasciitis (the 'flesh-eating' bacterial infections).

These bacteria are spread through direct contact with mucus from the nose or throat of people who are infected or through contact with infected wounds or sores on the skin. Infected persons who have strep throat or skin infections are most likely to spread the infection. Persons who carry the bacteria but have no symptoms are much less contagious.

In the medical setting, Strep species are divided into groups; "Group A strep" and "Group B strep". This is important when viewing infections through the eyes of antibiotic chemicals, but our Quantum Remedy for Strep covers all strains and all groups safely and effectively.

Staphylococcus

Found worldwide, the Staphylococcus species are a small component of soil microbial flora (good bacteria). Most species are harmless and reside normally on the skin and in mucous membranes of the nasal and upper respiratory system of humans and other organisms. However, some Staphylococcus species can cause a wide variety of diseases in humans and animals through either toxin production or penetration. Staphylococcal toxins are a common cause of food poisoning, as it can grow in improperly-stored food items.

Staphylococcus aureus cause most staph infections, principally:

  • Skin infections
  • Pneumonia
  • Food poisoning
  • Toxic shock syndrome
  • Blood poisoning (bacteremia)

Skin infections are the most common. They can look like pimples or progress into boils. They may be red, swollen and painful, and sometimes have pus or other drainage. They can develop into impetigo, which is a crust on the skin, or cellulitis, a swollen, red area of skin that feels hot. Anyone can get a staph skin infection. You are more likely to get one if you have a cut or scratch, or have contact with a person or surface that has staph bacteria. The best way to prevent staph is to keep hands and wounds clean.

MRSA, often pronounced "mer-sa" (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) is one of many of the greatly-feared strains of S. aureus which have become resistant to most antibiotics. MRSA strains are most commonly associated with institutions such as hospitals, but are becoming increasingly prevalent in community-acquired infections. While MRSA is considered antibiotic resistant, most staph skin infections, including MRSA, are easily treated with Liquid Detox applied to the infected area or with use of the MMS Protocol. In more severe cases, colloidal silver will also control Staph.

Shigella

Shigella is closely related to E. Coli and Salmonella. It is only naturally found in humans and apes. Shigella infection is typically contracted via ingestion (fecal–oral contamination). Depending on the age and condition of the host, as few as 100 bacterial cells can be enough to cause an infection. Shigella causes dysentery that results in the destruction of the epithelial cells of the intestinal mucosa in the cecum and rectum.

The most common symptoms are diarrhea, fever, nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps and flatulence. The stool may contain blood, mucus, or pus. In rare cases, young children may have seizures. Symptoms can take as long as a week to show up, but most often begin two to four days after ingestion. Symptoms usually last for several days, but can last for weeks. Shigella is implicated as one of the pathogenic causes of reactive arthritis worldwide.

This Quantum Formula antidotes the various species in the Shigella genus, as well as enterotoxin, shiga toxin, verotoxin, M-cells, epithelial cells, IpaB, IpaC and IpaD proteins, vacuolar membrane and actin polymerization antidotes.

Salmonella

Salmonella are found worldwide in cold and warm blooded animals (including humans), and in the environment. They cause illnesses like typhoid fever, paratyphoid fever, and food borne illness (food poisoning, often called enteritis). Typhoid and Paratyphoid ( a milder form of Typhoid) are diseases transmitted by the ingestion of food or water contaminated with the feces of an infected person, which contain the bacterium. The bacteria then perforate through the intestinal wall and are phagocytosed by macrophages. The use of reasonable sanitary practices is the best way to prevent these diseases. The most common disease caused by Salmonella in the industrialized world is enteritis, or food poisoning, also called Salmonellosis.

This can happen in the following ways:

  • Food may be contaminated during food processing or food handling.
  • Food may become contaminated by the unwashed hands of an infected food handler. A frequent cause is a food handler who does not wash his or her hands with soap after using the bathroom.
  • Salmonella may also be found in the feces of some pets, especially those with diarrhea. You can become infected if you do not wash your hands after contact with these feces.
  • Reptiles, baby chicks and ducklings, and small rodents such as hamsters are particularly likely to carry Salmonella. You should always wash your hands immediately after handling one of these animals, even if the animal is healthy. Adults should also be careful that children wash their hands after handling reptiles, pet turtles, baby chicks or ducklings, or small rodents.
  • Beef, poultry, milk, and eggs are most often infected with salmonella. But vegetables may also be contaminated. Contaminated foods usually look and smell normal.
  • Salmonella has often been associated with eating raw eggs, but salmonella is most often acquired through the fecal/oral route. It is the shell of the egg that may have been in contact with feces contaminated with the bacteria that is the issue. If there is a crack in the egg, the bacteria may enter the egg. Extra care in taking the contents out of an egg shell without having it run over the exterior of the shell is important.

Salmonella can survive for weeks outside a living body. Salmonella are not destroyed by freezing. To protect against Salmonella infection, it is recommended that food be heated for at least ten minutes at 75 °C (167 °F) so that the center of the food reaches this temperature.

Rickettsia

The Rickettsia survival depends on entry, growth, and replication within host cells (typically endothelial cells). Rickettsia species are carried by ticks, fleas, and lice, and cause diseases in humans such as typhus, rickettsialpox, Boutonneuse fever, African tick bite fever, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, Flinders Island spotted fever and Queensland tick typhus (Australian Tick Typhus). They have also been associated with a range of plant diseases.

Despite the similar name, Rickettsia bacteria do not cause rickets, which is a result of vitamin D deficiency.

Pseudomonas

Although there are 191 described species of pseudomonas, these infectious species flourish in hospital environments. They are a particular problem in this environment since it is the second most common infection in hospitalized patients (nosocomial infections). This pathogenesis might be due to the wide range of protein secretion systems in these bacteria.

P. syringae is a prolific plant pathogen, many of which demonstrate a high degree of host plant specificity. There are numerous other Pseudomonas species that can act as plant pathogens. Although not strictly a plant pathogen, P. tolaasii can be a major agricultural problem as it can cause bacterial blotch of cultivated mushrooms. Similarly, P. agarici can cause drippy gill in cultivated mushrooms.

An article published in the journal Scientific American in 2008 showed Pseudomonas may be the most common nucleator of ice crystals in clouds. This makes them extremely important in the formation of snow and rain around the world so exposure to some strains may be acquired simply by breathing!

Certain members of the Pseudomonas genus have been applied to cereal seeds or applied directly to soils as a way of preventing the growth or establishment of crop pathogens. This practice is generically referred to as biocontrol, using one organism to control the effects of another. This is considered as harmless as having a dog protect your property, but the genetic imprint of the Pseudomonas on foods we eat can leave an energetic marker that allows it to become more easily pathogenic in our body.

This Quantum Formula antidotes the various species in the Psudomonas genus as well as catalase, oxidization, pyoverdine, pyocyanin, thioquinolobactin, di-2,4-diacetylfluoroglucylmethane and phenazine.

Proprionibacterium

This genus of bacteria is named for their unique metabolism. They are able to synthesize propionic acid by using unusual biotin containing transcarboxylase enzymes. Its members are primarily facultative parasites and commensals of humans and other animals, living in and around the sweat glands, sebaceous glands, and other areas of the skin.

They are virtually ubiquitous and do not cause problems for most people, but propionobacteria have been implicated in acne and other skin conditions. It can also cause chronic blepharitis (inflammation of the eye lid) and endophthalmitis (inflammation of internal coats of the eye), the latter particularly following intraocular surgery. The genome of the bacterium has been sequenced and a study has shown several genes that can generate enzymes for degrading skin and proteins that may be immunogenic (activate the immune system).

It is usually just barely detectable on the skin of healthy pre-adolescents. It lives primarily on, amongst other things, fatty acids in the sebaceous glands on sebum secreted by follicles. It may also be found throughout the gastrointestinal tract in humans and many other animals. It is named after its ability to generate propionic acid. When a pore is blocked, this anaerobic bacterium overgrows and secretes chemicals that break down the wall of the pore and forming an acne lesion (folliculitis), possibly spilling bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus into the broken skin. Preliminary research shows healthy pores are only colonized by P. acnes while unhealthy ones universally include the non-pore-resident Staphylococcus epidermidis, amongst other bacterial contaminants. Thus, you may want to consider the Staphylococcus remedy along with this remedy if you have Acne or similar skin conditions.

Some strains of this bacteria are used in cheese making to create CO2 bubbles that become "eyes", round holes in the cheese. Matter of fact, Swiss cheese holds the highest concentration of bacteria from this genus.

Another species in this genus are found as part of the normal human flora.
