Osteopenia

Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis ("porous bones") is a condition of the bones. In order to acquire Osteoporosis, the bone microarchitecture deteriorates and the amount and variety of proteins in the bones are altered. This process is more commonly referred to as a reduction in bone mineral density (BMD). BMD is most accurately measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). The score is compared to that of a healthy 30-year old adult, and you are given a T-score. As the T-score deviates from a healthy range of 0, the T-score becomes a negative number. The lower the number, the higher risk you have for bone fracture.

A normal bone density score would read 1 SD (+1 or -1 point Standard Deviation from healthy range). Low bone mass would read between 1 and 2.5 SD (-1 to -2.5 SD). This low bone mass range is often referred to as Osteopenia, meaning you are just a moment away from becoming an Osteoporosis candidate. Osteoporosis is considered 2.5 SD (-2.5 standard deviation or more). As SD score deviates even lower than 2.5, the condition is considered that much more chronic or severe for multiple risk of fracture. Remember that Osteoporosis is considered a fragility syndrome. This person has to be extremely careful as a minor fall could cause several broken bones. The most typical areas for fragility fractures occur in the vertebral column, rib, hip and wrist.

There are 3 main reasons for loss of bone density, Osteopenia or Osteoporosis:

  1. The primary cause is loss of minerals required to keep the bones healthy. This is generally due from lack of plant based minerals in a person's diet.
  2. The second cause is use of steroids, primarily glucocorticoid medications that bind glucocorticoid receptors. These can be so destructive to bone health it is often recommended that a BMD test be done after only two months of using these medications.
  3. Bone loss is often considered a genetic condition in small part. I give this factor little attention because what a person inherits is the lack of minerals, not an actual genetic disposition.

Understanding Classification: The form of osteoporosis most common in women after menopause is referred to as primary type 1 or postmenopausal osteoporosis. It is said to be caused from a deficiency of estrogen, but the truth is, if minerals are supplied along with the right kind of Vitamin D3, the condition reverses without supplying any kind of estrogen. Using estrogen is simply a bad idea all the way around and I highly discourage it. Primary type 2 osteoporosis or senile osteoporosis occurs after age 75 and is seen in both females and males at a ratio of 2:1. Secondary osteoporosis may arise at any age and affect men and women equally. This form results from chronic predisposing medical problems or disease, or prolonged use of medications such as glucocorticoids, when the disease is called steroid- or glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis.

While Osteoporosis is one of those health conditions that can make a person feel like they are finally getting old, Osteoporosis should be considered a reversible condition. There is zero need to become fragile or decrepit. Of course, the earlier you catch it, the faster the reversal will be.

The Calcium Myth: We are told that bones need calcium, and this is true. Over the decades I have been helping people, I have found that bone health has much less to do with Calcium than it has to do with other supporting Minerals. As a rule of thumb, you are wiser to take the Vitamin D3 formula as a preventative than you are to take a Calcium supplement. Many calcium supplements are derived from sources which the body is not able to utilize, so not only are they a waste of money but they can be a negative for the body. If you cannot afford the OMCx listed below, which contains all the minerals needed to reverse Osteo conditions, I suggest you ingest foods known to be high in calcium, focusing on plants and veggies as the best sources.

No matter what the cause or origin of your Osteoporosis, the OMCx supplies every necessary mineral and enzyme co-factor in a completely bioavailable form. Taken with the Bone Support Remedy and the Vitamin D3 formula we supply, you are looking at a protocol that is able to generate maximum healing. The D3 is very essential, along with the OMCx if your Osteoporosis was caused from steroid or glucocorticoid medications.

Reversal and complete healing of Osteoporosis may take some time. It did not happen quickly and it will not reverse over night. Please use the suggested Protocol for at least 6 months before expecting notable change in your next bone density test.

Norovirus

Norovirus (formerly Norwalk agent) causes approximately 90% of epidemic nonbacterial outbreaks of gastroenteritis around the world. It may also be responsible for 50% of all foodborne outbreaks of gastroenteritis in the U.S. Norovirus affects people of all ages. The viruses are transmitted by fecally contaminated food or water, by person-to-person contact, via aerosolization of the virus and subsequent contamination of surfaces.

Outbreaks of norovirus infection often occur in closed or semiclosed communities, such as long-term care facilities, overnight camps, hospitals, prisons, dormitories, and cruise ships where the infection spreads rapidly either by person-to-person transmission or through contaminated food. Many norovirus outbreaks have been traced to food that was handled by one infected person.

When a person becomes infected with norovirus, the virus begins to multiply within the small intestine. After approximately one to two days, norovirus symptoms can appear. The principal symptom is acute gastroenteritis that develops between 24 and 48 hours after exposure, and lasts for 24–60 hours. The disease is usually self-limiting (goes away by itself), and is characterized by nausea, forceful vomiting, watery diarrhea, and abdominal pain, and in some cases, loss of taste. General lethargy, weakness, muscle aches, headache, coughs, and low-grade fever may also occur.

Severe illness is rare. Although people are frequently treated at the emergency ward, they are rarely admitted to the hospital. The number of deaths from norovirus in the U.S. is estimated to be around 300 each year, with most of these occurring in the very young, elderly, and persons with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may become life-threatening in these groups if dehydration is ignored or not treated.

It is interesting that individuals with blood type O are more often infected, while blood types B and AB can confer partial protection against symptomatic infection.
