The Pulse Test

All too often we think of allergy in terms of notable reaction; perhaps some food or substance that gives you a rash or causes itching or swelling, maybe even anaphylactic shock? Yes, those are certainly note worthy allergies. But there are many sub-acute, or metabolic allergies that you may not be aware of. These allergies will not cause symptoms associated as a “reaction” but they are causing all kinds of health interference. There are many kinds of allergy tests available. Some use a skin scratch test, some are tested against your blood proteins, and there are many people doing some sort of kinesiology based allergy test. But there is a perfectly accurate allergy test you can do AT HOME, called The Pulse Test.

Did you know that a sub-acute allergy can be the trigger behind that nagging health condition that nobody seems able to fix? An allergy can trigger emotions and feelings that you seem unable to control, including depression. These sub-acute allergies can even be what is keeping you from losing the weight you want even though you are exercising and “dieting.” Any time I have a client where the normal treatment protocols do not seem to be making a difference, I suspect a sub-acute allergy. But maybe you don’t suffer any of those problems, what about the cellular stress and oxygenation secretly causing you to age? Does that bother you?

An allergen is defined as any substance that causes an overcompensation of the body’s immune system. An allergy occurs when the body cannot digest, metabolize or otherwise “deal with” that particular substance.  It may be a food, beverage, something coming into contact with your skin, something you breathe in, even a thought! What happens when you think about something stressful? Your pulse goes up. Well, you may not have noticed, but anytime you ingest or come into contact with something your body cannot digest, metabolize or otherwise “deal with,”, your pulse goes up, and that, is a sub-acute allergy.

Dr. Arthur F. Coca (1875-1959) was an expert in allergies and highly respected in his field until he discovered the pulse test and consequently was asked to leave Columbia University. His wife was a medical researcher who was admitted to the hospital with severe heart palpitation. She was treated with morphine and consequently her pulse went up to more than 180 beats per minute. This was how Dr. Coca discovered the connection between substances and the pulse. He researched this phenomenon and wrote “The Pulse Test”, which is still in print. The Pulse Test is an easy way to determine the effect of any substance you are exposed to.

How to perform the Pulse Test (please note that smoking may inhibit a correct test result):

The Pulse Test is performed by taking your pulse several times every day and noting the results in a diary. The easiest way is to use your middle finger and ring finger to find the pulse rate on your wrist, about an inch below your thumb base. Take a moment to locate it (does not matter which side of your body you use). To do the Pulse Test properly, you will need a starting base line. Take your pulse for a full minute every time as listed below:

  • In bed upon waking up, but while still laying down (morning pulse).
  • Seated before every meal and prior to ingesting any food or drink.
  • At every meal note all foods and drinks taken.
  • Seated after every meal.
  • Seated half an hour after every meal.
  • Seated an hour after every meal.
  • In bed laying down just before sleeping.

After three or four days of the above procedure, you have a base line and will know your average pulse rates. Now you may start taking your pulse after intake or exposure to any individual, or isolated item. For example, after taking the pulse before you begin breakfast (or coffee) ingest a small portion of ONE food or a small portion of ONE drink. Retake your pulse in half an hour. If it is 12 beats higher than normal pulse at that time, you have an allergy to that item.

Anything that raises your normal pulse levels means your body is not happy with it and it must expend more energy than it should to “deal with” that item. If the pulse only goes up 5 beats, the item is mildly allergenic. If the pulse goes up 10 – 16 beats above normal, you really should avoid that item. The maximum variation in a normal pulse is 16 beats per minute, unless there has been strain to the body, infections or other stressing factors.

Organic, Is It Worth It?


The organic foods report (prepared by the Soil Association – the UK’s counterpart to the USDA) addressed eight key topics of food cultivation, processing and nutritional content, starting with pesticides.

This is probably the main element that most people associate with organic foods: that they’re pesticide-free. What’s not so well known is the connection between pesticide use and the antioxidant content of food.

Crops that are stressed by insects produce polyphenolic compounds, which are naturally potent antioxidants. But crops that are treated with pesticides don’t need the natural protection of polyphenolics, and produce less of the compounds. So when crops are denied pesticides, consumers get a double benefit: better nutrition without the residue of chemical pesticides in the food, and a higher antioxidant content.

The UK report noted that pesticide use has been associated with a variety of health risks, including cancer, fetal abnormalities, chronic fatigue, and Parkinson’s disease. One study revealed that women with breast cancer are five to nine times more likely to have traces of pesticides in their blood than women who don’t have the cancer.

Organic foods are free of food additives such as MSG, hydrogenated fats, and artificial sweeteners and coloring, which have been associated with a risk of asthma, headaches, growth retardation, and hyperactivity in children. These additives have also been linked to the development of allergies – another of the key elements of the UK report.

Genetically modified (GM) organisms are also not allowed in the production of organic food. The report notes that only ten studies of GM foods have been conducted. Among those, the ones that were completely independent of funding or input from companies with GM affiliations found evidence of harmful effects in the gut lining of humans.

The report cautions that until GM crops and food products are properly tested, “people are, in our opinion, wise to avoid eating GM food.”

Besides the obvious benefits of not ingesting pesticides, additives, and GM organisms, organic foods have been found to be more nutritious than conventionally grown foods. The Soil Association conducted a study to compare the vitamin and mineral content of organic foods vs. non-organic foods. The organics won out with higher levels in all 21 of the examined nutrients.

The vitamin C and magnesium levels in the organic foods were 27 percent and 29 percent higher, respectively, compared to the non- organic samples. And minerals were found to be significantly higher in organic spinach, potatoes, cabbage, and lettuce.

Similar results were reported in tests of organic livestock animals that foraged for fresh food compared to livestock that was given processed feed. The organic livestock had higher concentrations of omega-3 fatty acids and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) – two key nutrients whose value is well known to HSI members.

For several years, the UK’s Food Standards Agency (FSA) didn’t officially recognize any difference between organic foods and conventionally grown foods. But the UK organic food report indicates that the official view may be changing. At a public meeting last year, Sir John Krebs, the Chair of the FSA, admitted that organic food contains fewer residues of pesticides than foods grown by conventional means.

So if you’re fortunate enough to have access to fresh, organically grown produce, the next time you’re given the choice between lower priced conventionally grown food or higher priced organic, just ask yourself: Which would Sir John buy?

Summary of The Organic Food Guide
Definition of organic: Organic food is grown, processed, and packaged without the use of agricultural chemicals, artificial colors or flavors, genetic modification, irradiation, or other synthetic ingredients.

Organic farming treats plants, soil, and animals with natural products instead of synthetic chemicals and drugs. Organic farmers believe that although pesticides produce abundant amounts of low-cost food, they create higher costs in other sectors of society. The food is cheap, but the cleanup is immense. Consumers may save at the supermarket, but they lose these savings through tax dollars, agribusiness subsidies, and superfunds–all necessary to correct the results of chemical-based agriculture.

Understanding The Labels
Certified Organic must have a “Certifying Agent” label on the back of the package, probably near the end of the ingredient list. It may also have the “USDA Organic” emblem on the front but this is not required if the agency is on the back. It must say “Certified Organic” or the phrase “9x organic”, if not, by law then it is less than 95% organic. If a product is 70% to 94% organic, you will see the “x organic” percentage label and the certifying agent seal on the back of the package. The USDA seal, however, is not permitted anywhere on the package.
Supplements may be different due to the capsules made of gelatin, which are made from animal bones and tissues, are approved by the NOP, but vegetarian capsules are not approved. Therefore, even though the contents are 100% certified organic and the capsule is not organic, it may still display organic, but is not allowed to display the USDA seal. Read your labels carefully.

All Natural. This is an unregulated claim due to still using pesticides and genetically altered seed.

Antibiotic-Free. This is an unapproved and unverified claim. Only organic-labeled meats are verified to be antibiotic-free.

Fair Trade Certified. The fair trade insignia is not an organic label, but it does identify these foods as having achieved certain high standards. Visit the Web site, www.transfairusa.org.

Free-Range. A partially regulated, general claim implying that a meat or poultry product, including eggs, comes from an animal raised in the open air or that was free to roam. The USDA regulates this claim for poultry only, not beef or eggs.

CONSIDER THIS!

  • A fertilizer used by conventional farmers is pure nitrate-sodium nitrate, potassium nitrate, and ammonium nitrate. (These chemicals are also used to make nitroglycerin and gunpowder!) The big risk with nitrates is bladder cancer.
  • The substances used to make the fertilizers are classified as carcinogens (cancer causing). The EPA does not approve or reject these chemicals in the fertilizer for human consumption: it only regulates the amount of residues that are permitted to remain on our food.
  • The prestigious New England Journal of Medicine published a study in July 2000 declaring that we are more likely to contract cancer from pesticides and environmental pollutants than from hereditary causes.
  • Children are much more susceptible to pesticides because of their low body weights and high metabolisms. Because of their lesser body weight, up to 35 percent of lifetime exposure to some carcinogenic pesticides occurs by age five.
  • In a 2001 report, the U.S. Geological Survey detected one or more pesticides in more than 90 percent of water and fish samples from streams and in 50 percent of all wells.
  • Researchers at the National Academy of Sciences suggested that one out of four developmental and behavioral problems in children may be linked to pesticides.
  • According to the USDA’s own data, preschoolers were exceeding government safety limits of pesticides simply by eating non-organic apples and peaches at the same meal.
  • Antibiotics and Hormones in Animal feed. According to the Animal Health Institute, averages of 22 million pounds of antibiotics are used annually on livestock. That’s twice the amount used by people!
  • Conventional livestock farmers serve feed spike with large amounts of antibiotics and hormones to speed growth and fatten up their cattle. The result: People are absorbing low-level doses of antibiotics, enabling bacteria to develop resistance to them. This in turn does not allow our bodies to fight infections when exposed, so much to the point that our penicillin and tetracycline are not working.
  • Now that cows are raised in such an unhealthy way they have to add more antibiotics to the milk to fight infection from the over abundant processing. The milking process causes so much damage to the cow utters they become infected.
  • Farmed raised salmon is also fed the antibiotics, to reduce disease, and an unintended ingredient-polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB).
  • In 2003 the Environmental Working Group found that farmed salmon from five countries had sixteen times more PCBs than wild salmon, and four times more than in beef. By the way, farmed salmon don’t turn out pink like wild salmon: they are pale yellow or khaki. Artificial color is added to the feed to redden them up. Look for the label with the words WILD HARVESTED.

What is GMO?
Genetically Modified Organisms (Foods), also known as biotechnology crops. In this plan, we are creating genetically modified organisms (GMOs) by taking the DNA from, say, bacteria, viruses, fish, or insects and adding them to another species, such as corn or rice. This, they think, would allow the crop to carry it’s own built –in pesticide. This is an extension of crossbreeding. Yup, because God didn’t know what he was doing when he designed it all.

Disturbing and morally wrong!
One of the most disconcerting issues about GMOs is that presently there are no regulations or labeling laws to identify them. This situation is compounded by the fact that 80 percent of the products in the U.S. supermarkets contain some GMOs. Soy, corn, potatoes, tomatoes, canola, cotton, papayas, radicchio, and squash are the main crops subject to genetic tweaking, and soy and corn derivatives end up in most processed (boxed or canned) foods.

Now let’s look at the benefits nutritionally to why organic food is better than convention food. In a study analyzed by the Australian Government Analytical Laboratory, tomatoes, beans, peppers, and beets grown on organic farms, using natural soil-regenerative techniques, contained ten times more mineral content than the same foods grown by conventional means.

In a 2002 University of Missouri study, chemists were shocked to discover that the smaller organically grown oranges delivered 30 percent more vitamin C than the larger conventionally grown ones. Certified nutritionist Virginia Worthington reported that organically grown fruits and vegetables outpaced their conventional counterparts with as much as 27 percent more vitamin C, 21.1 percent more iron, 29.3 percent more magnesium, 13.6 percent more phosphorus, and 18 percent more polyphenols (bioflavonoids).

Another important plant compound is salicylic acid. It is a major anti-inflammatory agent that protects against hardening of the arteries, colon cancer and heart attacks. Chemists synthesized part of it and called it aspirin! Biochemists at Dumfries and the University of Strathclyde analyzed dozens of brands of organic and nonorganic soups and paired their levels of salicylic acid. Organic soups had 600 percent more healthful salicylic acid than the others. Organic soup-1,040 nanograms vs. nonorganic soup-20 nanograms.

Let’s look at the nutritional benefits to organically grown meats. The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences studied thousands of cattle, sheep, and pigs and found that the organically raised animals had fewer health problems, better growth and fertility, and lower fat content than animals fed conventional feed. Buy organic meats if you want to steer clear of “mad cow disease.” You would be astonished at what they put in
conventionally raised cattle feed: horse protein, tallow, blood products, pork remainders, poultry brain, spinal cord, and manure-quite an obnoxious diet, especially for a vegetarian animal that has been traditionally raised on grain and grasses!

To wrap up on why to buy organic over conventional foods is quite simple. With all the information given we can see a lot of reasons to buy organic even if it was 3 times more expensive. But it isn’t. Organic grown foods are safer for the environment, healthier for our
children, and give us all of the nutrition that God intended us to have to live a beautiful and healthy life. When you look at the price of organic foods you may find that they seem way out of your budget. But take a look around and take your calculator with you. Organic foods come in bulk or at least bigger containers in some instances. This, if compared, may be
cheaper. Looking at all the other alternatives, coops and farmers markets, to finding organically grown fruits, vegetables, eggs, meats and so on could save a bundle. Stores are now finding that the demand for organic is growing so much that they have to have
comparable prices to the conventional foods. They are now even putting their private store labels on organic foods to help bring down the cost from fancy packaging, advertising, and promotions. So don’t look at a price tag in the first glance and say it’s not worth it
because just these factors listed above are mind altering enough for anyone that wants to live life fully and have their children extend their life without sickness. Remember, every generation that is exposed to all of the toxins becomes a weaker link in the human DNA.
Let’s stop disease and buy organic!

What does “naturally grown” mean? Natural food is packaged and processed without the use of additives or preservatives, but it may be grown using some conventional methods, including pesticides and genetically engineered grain. There is no authorized

Why could it be better to have “locally grown”? It is in season, there is no trucking or refrigeration, its low distribution costs make it economical, and it is usually fresher. Locally grown does not mean that it is organic. This is more along the lines of “naturally grown” unless more specified. Local growers can not afford to be affiliated with the certifiers of organic growers so it would be just the farmer’s information given and not knowing if it is truth or not.

What is CSA-Community Supported Agriculture? Unlike most farms, this one is “not-for-profit.” Each CSA has a circle of subscribers who agree in advance to meet the financial needs of the farm. What is Biodynamic farming? This is certified organic farming with a cosmic connection. This is a farmer who aspires to integrate organic methods with the rhythms of the sun, moon, planets and stars. This is based on the philosophy of Rudolf Steiner.

What is “fair trade”? This is a food network that involves international trade. Not all foods grown by fair trade cooperatives are farmed organically. What this does mean is that fair trade coffee, chocolate, bananas, etc. are “all natural,” if not labeled CERTIFIED
ORGANIC. The reason we do fair trade is because of low-cost labor, which means we make more money than the growers. So your $4 latte made Americans a lot of money and the farmers in Latin America can not even buy the essentials like food and clothing.

What is a “farmers’ market”? This is where local farmers can sell their organic grown or conventionally grown produce for more of a profit by bypassing supermarkets and distributors. There are no guarantees here, so ask the farmer and you will learn a lot. To

Clean vs. Unclean Meats

I would like to explain that the recommendation of eating clean meats and avoiding unclean meats is not about religion. Scientific studies have proven that each of the foods listed as unclean do have very toxic effects on the body (especially in accumulated amounts). Although many religious people do not see any harm in what is eaten believing that the Biblical principles are no longer valid, it seems that Bible and science have come together to show otherwise. Animals found on the unclean meat list either eat garbage, toxins and poisons, which become part of the meat structure you would eat, or they do not digest their food properly. It is good that there are animals like vultures that eat dead flesh and shrimp or catfish that eat the waste in the ocean. That is part of the cycle of nature. But the human body was not designed to deal with those poisons, it does not have the same processing organs. To eat of those meats is to invite all of those toxins and poisons into our body. 


Biblically Clean Food List

MEAT: It must have a hoof and the hoof must be parted; it must chew its own cud. A cloven hoof is divided or split hoof. Animals that chew their cud are known as ruminants, whose stomach consists of four chambers. Food enters the rumen where digestion begins, then it passes to the reticulum, for more digestion and expulsion upward (chew it again). The food returns to a chamber called the omasum and finally to the abomasums where the cud passes into the duodenum and intestines. The process that occurs in the four stomachs allows ruminants to eliminate bacteria, toxins, parasites and other items that might become part of the flesh and eventually end up in the human body when it is consumed at the table. Overall it seems pretty wise that we don’t eat any animal that does not have four stomachs, lacking the ability to remove bacteria, virus, parasites, etc. If you are buying commercial meat, always choose the lean cuts. The fat in meat is saturated fat, the kind that clogs arteries.

FISH: A fish must have fins and scales, whether in the seas or the rivers (fresh or salt water). Scales help the fish repel toxins in the water. The fat content described below is not something you need to be concerned with as far as the Bible describes; it is only listed in case you wish to eat meat of a particular fat content. The more stars listed (****) the higher the fat content.

Look at the eyes of the fish: they should be shiny, bright and bulging, firm and clear. The scales should be shiny. If you touch the fish and leave an indention in the meat, don’t eat it. The meat should be firm and bounce back. If the fish has a fishy smell, it is not fresh and is not recommended.

FOWL: Fowl must not be a meat-eating fowl. If a bird eats rats or snakes or other animals that are unclean to begin with, they will be ingesting the poisons and toxins contained in the meat of the animal they are eating. Examples of acceptable fowl include:

MISC.: These are also allowed and considered clean…YUM!

FISH: If fish do not have fins and scales (bony tubercles are not considered scales). Any fish without scales, especially the catfish, has a wonderful ability to absorb pollutants from the water. When oil spills, pollution, chemical waste and such are dumped into the water, many fish die. But how many of these have you seen dead on the sea shore? They absorb the toxins into their flesh.

• European flatfish

SEAFOOD: All crustaceans and mollusk shellfish. Shellfish have a unique ability to purify water of pathogenic bacteria such as those found in raw sewage. Clams and oysters can filter up to fifty gallons of seawater a day. These creatures clean the seas of waste, but the waste becomes part of their flesh. Consider these the cockroaches of the sea. The Bible considers them not only unclean but an abomination!

FOWL: Anything that eats dead meat is unclean, or birds of prey because there is no guarantee what they’ve eaten. Remember that anything an animal eats will become part of its flesh and eventually become a hazard to you if you end up eating that animal.

 Additionally, no animal is to be consumed if it was not slaughtered for food. This means you should not eat anything that died of a natural cause as it might be diseased. You are not to eat meat cooked in its mother’s milk. You are not to eat the blood, but drain off all the blood from the meat and eat no fat from the meat, but cut it off.

Dr. Christopher’s Eye Wash

For the healing of Glaucoma, Cataract, Macular Degeneration, general eye infection and better eye sight.

The formula contains a number of different herbs, each having their own purpose. For example, there is cayenne pepper, which stimulates the eye tissues and improves the circulation in them. There is golden seal root, which kills any infection or bacteria in the eye tissues. There is bayberry bark, and red raspberry which promote the growth of new, healthy eye tissue. Finally there’s eyebright, an herb which has been used to cure eye problems for the last seven hundred years.

Often, within a week after starting, people notice mucus and pus coming out of their eyes when they wake up. This is simply damaged cells and toxic materials which are being cleansed from the eyes. One lady called me after taking the eye formula for only two days. She said, “Dr. Christopher, I woke up this morning and my eyes were almost glued shut with mucus.”

I told her she was lucky. I said, “If the mucus comes out of your eyes at that rate, you’ll have your vision back in no time.”

You see, when the entire eye is cleaned out, the vision will naturally improve. When the waste material comes out of the muscles, the muscles will become stronger and will be able to focus better. When the lens in the eye is cleaned out, it will become almost crystal clear. When this happens, light rays will travel through the entire lens and will be focused on the retina without being distorted, which usually happens when the lens is cloudy. In addition, the optic nerve itself will become much more sensitive and it will send picture images to and from the brain many times quicker.

Also the eyewash will increase the circulation in the eye. This means nutrients will travel more quickly to the eye and the eye will regenerate at a faster rate. This circulation is vitally important in relation to the eye lens. There are no blood vessels in the lens itself. It depends entirely on the freeflowing humorous liquids which bathe the lens on both sides. So when nutrients can get to the lens quickly, and when waste products can be discharged from the lens easily, a person’s focusing ability is bound to improve.

Now the quality of the herbs you use will completely dictate your results. If you use commercial herbs, you may not get results. Make sure you use organic or wild harvested herbs. Find them as loose, dry herbs, not powdered form.

You Will Need:

  • 1 part Eyebright herb,
  • 1 part Bayberry bark,
  • 1 part Red raspberry,
  • 1 part Goldenseal, and
  • 1/8 part Cayenne.

To make the eyewash, put one teaspoon of the formula in a cup of boiling distilled water. You should never use tap water. When the tea has cooled, and the herbs have settled to the bottom, pour the solution through a clean piece of cotton or wool. Don’t use any synthetic fibers. Then pour a small amount in a glass eye cup, which you can get in any drug store.

To use the eyewash, place the cup over one of the eyes and blink the eye for a few times, then rest the eye for a few moments. This will let the eye become accustomed to being washed. Then repeat with the other eye. Keep using the eyewash until you can blink about 20 times with each eye. The second day, you can try to leave the eyes open for a few seconds in the solution. Your eyes may sting in the beginning. But the more you use the eyewash, the easier it will be.

Keep using the eyewash three times a day, and try to keep your eyes open in the solution for longer and longer periods. Hopefully, within a week you should be able to keep them open for five minutes at a time. If you can do this persistently, day in and day out you’ll be well on your way toward correcting any vision problems you may have. If your eyes are really bad, you can take the eyewash 5 or 6 times a day.

Also, I urge you to take three capsules of the formula twice a day internally. This is absolutely essential if you expect to get complete results.

The Artificial Fever

What is it? Well, it is inducing extra body heat artificially (with a hot bath). The Artificial Fever helps the body burn up microbes, particularly of viral origin. And YES, this is perfectly safe for children.

When do we use it? Generally when the body already has a fever, we use this to help accelerate and break the fever, not stop the fever.

What? Aren’t we supposed to be looking for ways to reduce the fever? That is what medical schools teach, but that is not good healing practice. Why did the body get a fever in the first place? A fever is the body’s natural immune response to fight off infection, generally from a bacteria or virus. To reduce the fever with Tylenol or equivalent is to stop the attempt at healing. It is much more productive to help the body heal, not impede it.

When is a fever dangerous? The usual criteria for a fever that needs medical attention soon is any fever that goes over 104 degrees F or any fever that stays above 102 degrees F for more than a day. 102.5 degrees F isn’t too bad if it is “breaking”, meaning that it goes up for a few hours and then you break out sweating and it comes back down for a while. You can go several days like that without a problem, as long as you are still getting plenty of rest and fluids.

As long as you don`t have a rash that wont disappear when rolled over with a glass, or a stiff neck and aversion to bright lights, which can mean symptoms of menengitis.

105 degrees F is usually considered the heat-stroke level, where brain damage can occur. The body and organs can take the heat, it is the brain you do not want overheating. If you reach 104, you should consult a local doctor. That said, when I describe how to do the Artificial fever below, you will see that a pail with ice water and hand towels can be used to keep the head cooler. If the brain remains in the safe range, there is no danger.

How To:  Draw a bathtub full of water. You will want the water as hot as you can stand it, but not hot enough to hurt you or burn you. You will be sitting as submerged as you can in this water for 20 minutes. If the air is cool in the house, you may want to run a small heater in the bathroom to keep the air very warm or the water will cool off and it will diminish much of the affect.

As the water is filling the tub and the heater is warming up the air, place a hand towel and a bed sheet in a pail or bowl filled with ice water. Place the pail within reach of the tub as you may want to keep the small towel within reach to be used on the head to keep the brain cool (if you feel you are getting too hot or feel like you might pass out). Some people get real weak in that much heat, so you may want to have a friend handy to help you with this final part.

When your pail of ice water is ready, get in the tub and immerse as much of your core as possible. After twenty minutes of soaking in the hot bath water, get out and immediately wrap yourself in the cold sheets. It sounds dramatic, but you will be hot enough by then that you will welcome that cold sheet. We are looking for the drastic temperature change in the skin, so get out of the hot water and wrap up in the ice cold sheet as quickly as possible.

The heat from the body will overcome the cool of the sheet very quickly. When it does, you may discard the sheet and wrap up in something that will keep you warm enough to sweat. A cotton sheet is a great idea. Those mylar emergency blankets that fold up to the size of a fist and cost a couple of dollars at Walmart are great to wrap around you and the cotton sheet. Those will assure you sweat and keep you from soaking through your sheet onto your bed. You may now leave the bathroom and go to your place of rest. The key after the cold sheet is to get hot again, so if you don’t have a mylar blanket, snuggle into an old sleeping bag you don’t mind sweating in. It does not matter what you wrap up in as long as you are warm enough to sweat.

The goal now is to sleep and sweat. When you wake up, or are through resting, you are finished. Try to rest for at least 20 minutes although a longer nap would be preferred. Your body has gone through the process of creating an artificial fever which is the natural process of killing unwanted germs, particularly viruses in the body. In almost all cases, you have helped the body bring the internal temperature to a point where the immune system over took the cause of the fever and your fever should break, begin to come down and you are done!

Coffee Enemas

Partial Colon Flushing w/ Enemas

An enema is simple to do. You can buy a hot water bottle at most corner drug stores that come with a five or six foot hose attachment. The bottle comes with attachments for douching and enemas or can be used as a simple hot water bottle. For use as an enema, the hose is screwed into the hot water bottle and the enema tip to the other end of the hose. The enema tip is about the diameter of a pen. That is smaller than a normal bowel movement, so insertion of this tip into the anus (about two inches after lubricating with olive oil) isn’t as assaultive as it might sound. The psychological aspect is the only part that is hard for some people.

There are many types of enemas that can be used. Plain water, lemon in water, water with hydrogen peroxide, etc. One of the most effective enemas in terms of health benefit is a coffee enema. That is what we focus on in this article. Basically, an enema means you will be inserting a hollow tip into the anus. This tip is about the same diameter as a pen and is only inserted a couple of inches so the solution is delivered past the anal muscle into the rectum. You would lie on your back or your side (left side is best) and allow 1-4 cups of solution to run into the bowel at gravity fed speed. You hold the solution in the colon as long as possible. When unable to hold it anymore, you get on the toilet and release it. That’s it.

Directions For Making And Using A Coffee Enema
A coffee enema is one of the most effective methods of initiating bile production and flushing of the liver. The elements of coffee in enema form (theobromine, theophylline and caffeine) are absorbed in the hemorrhoid vein and taken up the portal vein, which serve the liver directly. Drinking coffee does not have the same effect, sorry. Enemas are often needed to assist the body in elimination of toxins from the liver, the body’s natural detoxification organ. Headaches, spontaneous sweats, bloating and healing crisis are all signs of liver congestion which would probably benefit from a coffee enema. Matter of fact, if you suffer with headaches or migraines, do a coffee enema when you first feel it coming on and it will generally stop all head pain!

Make 1-4 cups of brewed coffee, never instant, always brewed, organic if possible. You may want to start with two cups of coffee and dilute it with one cup of water that brings the coffee to temperature. Test the temperature on your wrist as you would contents of a baby bottle. It should be warm enough to relax the intestinal muscles, but not hot enough to harm the mucous membranes of the intestine. As you know you are able to handle the coffee, you can use up to a quart of brewed coffee with enough cold water to reduce the temperature to usable format. The higher the concentration of coffee, the greater the liver flushing abilities will be. The average recommended coffee enema is with about 4 cups of brewed coffee.

Place the solution in an enema bag (available at most corner drug stores). Hang the enema up above the level that you will be using it, but making sure the application tip will reach the location where you are laying. The solution is delivered into the colon by gravity. The higher you place it, the faster the solution will travel. You will want a slow traveling speed at first, but this can also be regulated by a valve on the enema hose. When the bag is in place, open the valve slowly to let the air out. When the coffee reaches the tip, close the valve, you are ready to begin.

NOTE: If you have never done an enema, you may find it difficult to hold the coffee in the intestine once it flows in from the bag. Until you know what your retention ability is, it may be wise to do your first enema in the shower or the tub in case you have an accident. It will be much easier to clean up there. 

Position yourself in a comfortable spot. It is most effective to lie on your LEFT side, or to have your bottom up (rather than on your back) and bring the knees about half way to the chest. Once positioned, lubricate the end of the enema tip with some olive oil or other lubricant and insert the end of the tube about two inches into the anus. Release the valve slowly and allow the coffee-water to run into the colon until you start to feel full, then stop the valve. Retain as much of the coffee as you can, for as long as possible, then get up and eliminate in the toilet. Depending how much solution you used, you may need to repeat this process several times. Effectiveness generally requires at least a couple of cups held for several minutes although more experience can allow almost a court of water held for up to 20 minutes! If you can retain several cups for about 7 minutes, you should consider your enema successful.

If coffee enemas make you feel worse, DO NOT use them, they are over stimulating your body. An enema used daily, or several times a week can be used short term to relieve symptoms. Do not use long term or the continual stimulation will stress the liver.

Benefits of Fasting

Fasting is the oldest form of health care. Modern thinking has developed this mentality that when we are sick, eating produces strength. But nothing is further from the truth. If a sick person will fast, more energy will be available to fight the illness because the body is relieved from the labor of digesting foods. The energy required for digesting food is very high, particularly animal fats and proteins (including chicken soup.) We have been advised to avoid swimming after eating or suffer cramps in the water because muscles in use require energy, which produces lactic acid. Lactic acid is also produced in the process of digestion. Combined, these can be overwhelming to the muscles.

Another example is during festivals like Thanksgiving where people eat like it’s their last meal. After a huge amount of food, do you feel energized or tired? You feel tired because the body is busy using all of its energy for digestion. If you eat heavily before sleep you will wake up feeling tired because your body cannot go into rest mode while it is busy digesting. Digesting food requires tremendous amounts of energy…and it’s not the kind that burns calories!

When you fast, the freed energy can then be directed towards the elimination of toxins in the body. The process of fasting normalizes glandular, metabolic and nervous-system functions; speeding up the elimination of morbid accumulations, toxic wastes and dead cells; accelerating new cell and tissue generation and enhancing cell-oxygenation. Unfortunately, only animals and babies retain their natural instinct when sick and refuse food.

What is Fasting?
Fasting commences within the first twelve to twenty-four hours of ceasing to eat ANY substance. A fast does not chemically begin until the carbohydrate stores in the body begin to be used as an energy source. The fast will continue as long as fat and carbohydrate stores are used for energy, as opposed to protein stores. Once protein stores begin to be depleted for energy, a person is technically starving. You do not want to reach this point as it is unhealthy and will result in loss of muscle mass. A fast is defined by the lack of digestive response. Lack of chewing is not fasting. Some believe that if they blend foods and drink them, they are fasting. No, that is just your teeth on vacation. Technically, fasting means nothing is consumed except for water, perhaps mixed with a little unsweetened apple or grape juice. These do not require digestion, particularly the apple juice, so the technicality of the fast is preserved.

Fasting Induces Detoxification
Detoxification is a normal body process of eliminating or neutralizing toxins through the colon, liver, kidneys, lungs, lymph glands, and skin. This process is precipitated by fasting because when food is no longer entering the body, the body turns to fat reserves for energy. These fat reserves were created when excess glucose and carbohydrates were not used for energy or growth, not excreted, and therefore converted into fat. When the fat reserves are used for energy during a fast, it releases the chemicals from the fatty acids into the system which are then eliminated through the mentioned elimination channels. Chemicals not found in food but absorbed from one’s environment, such as DDT, Novocain (dentist and epidurals), many vaccine preservatives, etc., are stored in fat reserves that can be released during a fast. One fasting advocate tested his own urine, feces and sweat during an extended fast and found traces of DDT in each. Keep in mind that the body will always use glucose sources for energy first, then fat stores when there is no longer glucose available. That means that for your body to release any of the toxins stored in fat, you have to fast long enough to use up the glucose reserves. That takes 1-3 days for most people. We will discuss how long one should fast shortly.

During a fast, energy is diverted away from the digestive system due to its lack of use and towards the metabolism and immune system. The healing process during a fast is precipitated by the body’s search for energy sources. Abnormal growths within the body (polyps, cysts, fatty tumors and malignant tumors), do not have the full support of the body’s supplies and therefore are more susceptible to autolysis (self digest). The liver is in charge of converting fats. This is called autolysis or gluconeogenesis. When this fat utilization occurs, free fatty acids are released into the blood stream and are used by the liver for energy. The less one eats, the more the body turns to these stored fats and creates ketones, the accumulation of which is referred to as ketosis.

Dietary ketosis is often confused with Ketoacidosis, a life-threatening condition most often associated with uncontrolled insulin-deficient Type 1 diabetes. In Type 1 diabetes, a lack of insulin leads to a toxic build-up of blood glucose and an excessive break-down of fat and muscle tissue. Ketoacidosis doesn’t occur in individuals who have even a small amount of insulin, whether from natural production or (if diabetic) artificially administered. In fact, far from causing health problems, dietary ketosis for intentional weight loss may be beneficial for health, as it can produce a range of benefits, such as: rapid weight loss, decreased hunger and fewer food-cravings, improved mood, increased energy and, providing protein-intake is adequate, protection of lean muscle tissue.

When we burn a larger amount of fat than is immediately needed for energy, the excess ketones are discarded in the urine. Volatile ketones (like, acetone) can be expelled through the lungs. Diabetics are sometimes mistaken for being drunk by the odor on their breath. Ketones give the breath a sickly, fruity odor like nail-varnish remover or pear-drops. If you get breath like this, you need more complex carbohydrates in your diet. If you do not add carbohydrates, you will probably loose weight very quickly, which might be your goal, but it will soon make the blood very acid and this can be very dangerous. You can buy keytone test strips for testing urine and keep your levels monitored if you wish to maximize metabolic success without crossing into a health hazard.

In addition, production of protein for replacement of damaged cells (protein synthesis) occurs more efficiently because fewer “mistakes” are made by the DNA/RNA genetic controls which govern this process. A higher efficiency in protein synthesis results in healthier cells, tissues and organs. This is one reason that animals stop eating when they are wounded, and why humans lose hunger during influenza. Hunger has been proven absent in illnesses such as gastritis, tonsillitis and colds. When the body looses hunger, there is a reason. Generally speaking, listen, don’t eat! …not even chicken soup. Your body is trying to heal. We think we need food for energy to grow, but did you know that growth hormones are also released during a fast, due to the greater efficiency in hormone production?

Science of Fasting
The most scientifically proven advantage to fasting is the feeling of rejuvenation and extended life expectancy. The surest way to increase the life span is by cutting down the amount of food eaten, which is interesting since one of the signs of success in most societies, is lots of food. Part of this phenomenon is caused by a number of the benefits mentioned above. A slower metabolic rate, more efficient protein production, an improved immune system, and the increased production of hormones contributes to this long-term benefit of fasting. In addition to the Human Growth Hormone that is released more frequently during a fast, an anti-aging hormone is also produced more efficiently. The only reliable way to extend the life span of a mammal (human) is under-nutrition without malnutrition.

A study was performed on earthworms that demonstrated the extension of life due to fasting. The experiment was performed in the 1930s by isolating one worm and putting it on a cycle of fasting and feeding. The isolated worm outlasted its relatives by 19 generations, while still maintaining its youthful physiological traits. The worm was able to survive on its own tissue for months. Once the size of the worm began to decrease, the scientists would resume feeding it at which point it showed great vigor and energy. The life-span extension of these worms was the equivalent of keeping a man alive for 600 to 700 years. I don’t know if it means anything, but after Noah’s flood in the Bible, man was allowed to eat many foods which were previously forbidden. Most of the meat delicacies in the world today are foods that were on that forbidden list, and still are for Jews.

Dr. Clive McCay, at Cornell University took laboratory rats and cut the rat’s food intake by half. It doubled their life span. Another study at the University of Texas involving three groups of rats is also interesting to note. One group eats as much as it wants, a second has its food intake cut by more than half, and the third eats as much as it wants but it’s protein intake was cut in half. After more than 2 years, only 13 % of the rats in the first group are still alive. Of the second group which has its food intake cut by more than half, 97 % are still alive. The third group sees only half remaining. The message is simple, Eat less = Live longer.

Fasting To Resolve Addictions
Most people are surprised at how easy it is to quit smoking or drinking with the help of fasting. Addictions are signs that we have lost awareness of ourselves in terms of our ability to process feelings. Addictions are simply methods of covering up emotions we don’t know how to deal with. It is often subconscious, so we aren’t even aware of what our “issues” are. This is part of being unaware of ourselves. When I say the word addiction, you probably think of things like alcohol, cocaine, nicotine and caffeine, but food, work, the drive to make money, sex (pornography), or anything that we have a hard time controlling our desire for, is an addiction. It is this very attribute that gives fasting a spiritual nature. Modern diets are addictions to many people. The addiction to what people believe to be yummy foods, are actually artificial colors, preservatives and additives. Fasting will often shorten the time it takes for an individual to make the transition from a modern diet and lifestyle to a healthier food choice and lifestyle. People say that after fasting healthy foods taste better, they are drawn to them and they lack desire for some of the junk they previously craved. Why? The awareness has begun to return. The body is able to communicate better, you can once again be intuitive with your body. NOTE: It is extremely counter productive to have blood sugar issues when a person already has addictions, so be sure to choose the kind of fast that will keep blood sugar stable if success is desired.

What Is The Best Fast?
According to the purists, fasting means only water – a juice fast is not a real fast. The religious purists assume that Jesus did a water fast, but there is no way to prove this. The Swedish Dr. Ragnar Berg, long considered an authority on nutrition and biochemistry stated, “During fasting, the body burns up and excretes huge amounts of accumulated waste. We can help this process by drinking alkaline juices instead of water. Juice fasting is therefore the very best form of fasting.” Furthermore, certain herbal combinations cleanse the entire gastro-intestinal tract, assure the elimination of toxins and the balancing of the entire body.

Most people have blood sugar imbalances (hypoglycemic tendencies). It is unproductive and even counterproductive to create blood sugar imbalances in the body, both on a physical, mental and emotional level. For this reason, juice fasting is both gentler on the system and easier on the mind. In a juice fast, the body is not starved of nutrients. Spending time taking in juices, herbal cleansing teas and because your taste buds are being satisfied by the juice, a juice fast feels less frugal than a water fast. The juice has an alkalizing effect on the blood, which reduces symptoms of detoxification. There are fruit juice and vegetable juice fasts.

The fruit juice fast is going to be more effective in detoxification, particularly if you use organic, unsweetened apple juice. Those who have issues with apple juice can use organic, unsweetened grape juice (Kedem in the glass bottle may be the absolute best, but hard to find). Apple juice contains pectin, an enzymes which induces further detoxification of the liver, gallbladder and even the stomach and small intestine. Both of these fruits are low glycemic fruits, which means they don’t have a high reaction to insulin response; i.e., your blood sugar doesn’t go all over the place. A fruit juice fast should contain no concentrations of juice, but a mixture of organic juice and water at a 50/50 ratio or more in favor of water.

If the body is already weak before beginning a fast, it is wisest to begin a vegetable juice fast rather than a fruit juice fast. While fruits have cleansing attributes, vegetables have more building attributes. Drinking freshly made vegetable juice allows a person who is weak to fast for short terms and gain the effects of fasting without creating further weakness. Carrots are the typical staple item in a vegetable juice fast. Any juicer will work to make your juice, but the juice needs to be used no more than 20 minutes after making it or it begins to loose essential nutritional components. The only exception might be the Greens Plus Juicer as it claims to keep nutrients for much longer.

How Long Should A Fast Last?
Fasting should not continue if the body begins to eat its own muscle (often evident if extreme hunger pains occur), if ketosis becomes a problem or there is mental impairment. You should always begin with a short fast. One day is a good start. If you feel stress at the very thought of fasting, begin by simply eliminating an important food group from your diet. This process prepares the mind for a day with no food. Once you know you are fine with one day, try to go three days. Some of the experts in cleansing state that the body does not dump the deep toxins until at least day 7, or even 10 days for some. Once you know you can do it, a fast of 10-40 days has been achieved by many. DO NOT get yourself in a health crisis though. If you feel severe hunger pains, or begin to get great mental confusion, please stop the fast.

When Is Fasting Harmful?
Fasting should not be considered without professional supervision if a person is pregnant, nursing, has eating disorders, or is excessively thin or malnourished.

How To Break A Fast
The greatest benefit may be lost, followed by harmful after effects, if the fast is not broken in the right way. George Bernard Shaw said, “Any fool can fast, but it takes a wise man to break a fast properly.” In fact, the best effects of a fast depend upon the dietetic management after it is broken. The longer the fast, the more care must be taken in breaking it. Raw fruit and vegetables should be the order of the next three days. If you need something more, a boiled or baked potato without butter can be introduced on the second and third day. The greatest danger lies in eating too frequently and too much at a time. After a long fast the digestive organs are in a condition of complete inactivity, and to overload them suddenly with a large amount of food may provoke acute attacks of indigestion and produce many other kinds of serious disturbances. The organs must be trained to return to normal activity gradually, beginning with very small quantities of light food.

The Lemonade-Master Cleanse

I would suggest this Cleanse at least twice a year for everyone! This was originally called the Master Cleanse, created by Stanley Boroughs (original book in .pdf). It is a method of fasting with a lemonade drink taken every hour, for 8 hours. Fasting is the oldest recorded “diet” program, dating back more than 2500 years. There is great detoxification, matter of fact, some would say that only during a fast does the body detoxify fully. It takes at least 10 days to reach the deeper tissues of the body. 10 days of no food is a long time for many, and it could be life threatening for someone who is diabetic or very hyperglycemic (get shaky when you don’t eat regularly). Using the ingredients in the Lemonade Fast supplies minerals and sugars so the body does not have those blood sugar reactions. The Lemonade Cleanse is one of the most effective total-body cleansing programs available. It is simple, inexpensive and provides you the energy to continue your daily tasks. It is true you are not eating, and the concept of that is hard for some people, but most people report that by day 3 they have more energy than they had when they were eating! Amazing!

The Lemonade Cleanse Summary
After this evening, you will stop eating (fast) for the length of your cleanse. Starting tomorrow, you will fill a glass with 8-10 ounces of good, pure water and add the following to your water. You will repeat this every hour for 10 days.

  1. ADD 1/10 of a teaspoon of Cayenne Pepper, organic if you can, at least 30,000 HU
  2. ADD 2 Tablespoons of Grade B Maple Syrup
  3. ADD 1/2 of a freshly squeezed lemon
  4. Each evening you will need a cup of laxative tea, which you can get at some grocery stores, most health food stores. Smooth Move Tea is a wonderful choice.

Beginning the second morning of your fast, and every morning thereafter, you will need 30 ounces of water with 2 (two) teaspoons of sea salt in it. NOT table salt, but sea salt. Drink it down in 15 minutes or less if you can. This is imperative to help flush the toxins that the body is releasing during the fast. Any detox symptoms you might get from fasting, like rash, irritable, headache, etc, is generally relieved with the morning salt water. IF you cannot drink the salt water, do another cup of the laxative tea in the morning unless you already have diarrhea.

That’s it! Eat nothing, and take no supplements during your fast (but continue any medications you are supposed to be on).

How many days should I fast?
The original Master Cleanse was a 10-day fast. Calm down…most people have a hard time doing that many days on a first fast. You don’t have to commit to that long. BUT, if you can make it to day 4, you won’t be hungry any more and it is a piece of cake after that. A one, two, even three day fast does not produce therapeutic results, meaning your body will get a little something from it, but nothing spectacular.  It takes a certain amount of days for the body to cleanse enough that it begins to release the deep toxins that cause disease. For some it will be day 7, but for most of the people who are not eating a diet that is primarily raw foods, it generally takes the full 10 days. But work up to it if you must. Do a couple days here and there until you find you can make it all the way to day 10. Remember, if you can get to day 4, you should be home free, the rest is easy.

How To Break A Fast

MELT A Kidney Stone NATURALLY And Stop The Pain!

Passing a kidney stone can cause so much pain it can make you wonder if being alive is worth it! I have used this recipe many, many times for clients who call in with emergency kidney stone pain. To date, I don’t think there is a single case it did not work on although it is reported to work 80% of the time. . . It’s not Coke and rum, it’s Coke and asparagus!

Home-made Kidney Stone Remedy
The phosphoric acid in Coca Cola helps break down the stones and the asparagus acts as a diuretic to flush out the tiny crystals. The pH change produced by the Coke causes increased hydrogen ion secretion in the nephrons (the tiny filtering units) of the kidney.

Required Ingredients:

  • • 6-pack of Coca-Cola, or a 2-liter bottle of Coke. Pepsi would probably work, too—but, we have not established proof of its effectiveness yet. Note: The original Kidney Stone Removal Remedy calls for Classic Coke™, not flavored, or Zero or any other ‘style’ although Caffeine-Free versions also seem to work. Both have phosphoric acid—this is one of the main catalysts for dissolving your kidney stones. In a pinch, due to its high phosphoric acid content, Dr. Pepper would likely work as well.
  • • 6–8 oz. of asparagus. Canned or frozen generally works, but fresh is best.
  • • A high-speed blender.
  • • One gallon of Distilled water.

Procedure:

  1. Over the course of 2 hours, drink the 72 ounces of Coke. Drink it warm or hot, not chilled or on ice.
  2. Steam or quickly boil the asparagus at some point during the two hours. Process it in the blender until it is well-puréed. You want liquid-no chunks. I would do this part just before you drink it, which is as you finish your 72 ounces of Coke.
  3. Within 5 minutes from drinking the last 12 ounces, drink the asparagus purée. Rather than simply gulping it down, try to mix the purée well with your saliva, which means swishing it around in your mouth.
  4. The remedy begins working immediately and, within a few hours, you’ll begin to pass the stones through your urine as sand-like particles. This should NOT be painful. If you are not getting relief in a matter of hours, feel free to try again.

Keys to Success:
• The remedy works best if done on an empty stomach.
• Time of day does not dictate results, but morning may be best so you are not drinking all that caffeine before you try to sleep.
• Continue to drink a large quantity of distilled water immediately after taking the asparagus. The water will serve to re-hydrate your body. The quantities of Coke will begin to dehydrate you, so the water helps to prevent this from happening.
• Although you can resume your normal diet immediately after you finish this remedy, it is best to wait between one and two hours before eating to allow the remedy to achieve the best results.
• If the kidney stones are not all passed the first day, repeat the process within 3 days. If you have a scheduled surgery, repeat the next day! -trying to avoid surgery here.
• Coke is not a preventative for stones. Actually, any soda pop with caffeine will dehydrate the body and lead to a higher potential of stones. For the remedy, the coke is used for its chemical properties and interaction with the asparagus.

Using pH as a Health Monitor

Are blood tests, yearly medical exams and physicals really the best health monitors?


What is pH?
PH is the abbreviation for potential hydrogen.  The pH of any solution is the measure of its hydrogen-ion concentration.  The higher the concentration (pH reading), the more alkaline and oxygen rich the fluid is. The lower the concentration of hydrogen ions, the more acidic and oxygen deprived the fluid is. Complete healing of chronic illness can only take place when tissue is restored to a slightly alkaline pH. Tissue pH is reflected externally through urine and saliva. The pH range is from 0 to 14, with 7.0 being neutral.  Anything above 7.0 is alkaline, anything below 7.0 is acidic.

Importance of pH
Scientists have discovered that the body fluids of healthy people are alkaline (high pH) whereas the body fluids of sick people are acidic (low pH).  If you have a symptom, disease or health concern on any level, you are probably over acid. If the cause of the pH level (acidity) is not identified and corrected, the health condition will continue to escalate until it reaches a chronic level. If cells are maintained in a severely acid environment, it causes organ failure and eventually death.

No matter what type of modality you choose to take care of your health problem, it will not be effective long term if it does not change the pH level to a slightly alkaline level. An acidic balance will  decrease the body’s ability to absorb vitamins, minerals and other nutrients, decrease the energy production in the cells, decrease the body’s ability to repair damaged cells, decrease it’s ability to detoxify and increase tumor cell production. You can pay a lot of money for a good alternative health panel of blood, urine, saliva and hair analysis. Or you can be your own doctor and get a very good idea of whether your body is moving toward health or disease with pH testing.

How to test pH
Testing the pH of the urine or the saliva is done in the same way. You can purchase a roll of pH paper, also known as litmus paper (found at most health food stores). You can also purchase pH stix, which are easier to use and read. To test pH, you will need a pH stix, or about an inch of pH paper from your roll.
To test saliva, pool a little saliva on or under your tongue and dip half of your pH paper (or stix) in it. Wet thoroughly and compare the color immediately with the color chart that came with your stix or pH paper.
To test urine, capture some urine in a clean container. A paper cup generally works well. Dip your pH stix or half of the piece you tore from the pH roll into the urine and compare immediately with the color chart.

Salivary pH = healing/regeneration potential
Salivary pH is most useful for monitoring how well the body is breaking down the foods being eaten. If the intestines are not able to digest and absorb food, it will not extract nutrition from the food. If your intestines cannot process nutrition, it doesn’t matter how good you eat or how many supplements you take. You are unable to rebuild healthy tissue. To test the overall health of the intestine, test the saliva first thing in the morning — before using the bathroom, brushing teeth, drinking water, smoking or even thinking about food. Optimal salivary pH is 6.4 – 6.8 first thing in the morning. If your morning pH is not in range, begin testing your salivary pH two hours after each meal. This will give you an idea of how acid or alkaline your last meal was…but it takes a couple of hours in your digestive system to give an accurate reading. Use this information to assist you in finding foods and diets that are healthy (alkaline). Optimal pH for saliva immediately after eating can be as high as 8.5, but should drop down to 7.0 – 7.2 two hours after the meal. That is a good range. If your numbers are below that range, consider that something you ate is breaking down into excessive acid.

Urine pH = ability to remove waste; detoxification potential
Urine can provide a fairly accurate picture of body chemistry. If the body is able to keep a healthy balance of chemistry, all building, detoxification and regeneration functions will be in order allowing the body to do its job in an efficient manner. The most effective urine is the second morning’s urine as the first contains a concentration of acids because it sat in the bladder for an extended period of time. Ideal range of second morning urine is 5.8 to 6.8.

Keeping pH in a healthy range
If you begin to study pH, you find that most people speak in terms of mineral reserves. If the pH numbers are not in range, some form of supplement is recommended, generally calcium or magnesium. Before you invest money into supplements that may not correct the cause, consider this:

If you have a moderately healthy diet and the intestines are kept in working order (digestion and elimination), the body will easily extract the ions needed to keep all mineral levels in balance. Even if you don’t have a diet rich in calcium, per se, the body uses something called transmutation to convert other elements in the body into calcium if that is what the body needs. The key is a healthy digestive/intestinal system. In addition to alkaline food intake and intestinal health, dehydration is an important factor in keeping pH balanced. Make sure you are drinking plenty of clean, fresh water each day.  And no, alkaline water is not the best source of water. Save your money and put it into good, organic produce.

Warning signs of acidity
One of the common signs of over acidity is receding gums and gingivitis. These signs evidence that the body is losing bone mass.  Yes, the mouth reflects the health of the bones. The body will “borrow” calcium from the bones to buffer acids from the diet and to fight hidden infections.  When enough bone mass has been lost in the jaw the gums will recede and the teeth become loose.  It is at this point that bacteria can get under the gums causing what’s known as gingivitis.  Unfortunately dentists do not understand this downward progression and are unable to offer their patients real answers. But now you know better, do something about it!

So, get some pH paper and every few months, check your urine and salive ph first thing in the morning for 5 days in a row. If you find your numbers are in range, you can feel fairly sure that your health is safe. If the numbers are lower than they should be, take steps to get them back to where you want them.
